Calling all Young Foundrymen and Women

Applications are being sought for this year’s Jubilee Award with a prize of an all expenses paid trip to the World Foundry Congress in Busan, South Korea.

The award is an ideal opportunity for a young person to be involved in the premier foundry event of 2020 and gain untold experience and significant acclaim. The closing date is 1st May 2020, so interested parties need to consider applying now.

Established by the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers in association with the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers to encourage young people in the cast metals industry to increase their knowledge and develop some international experience, the prestigious Jubilee Award is made every two years.

All applicants must be less than 33 years of age on 31st December 2020. They will have carried out a practical investigation into a system or systems employed in the production of iron and or steel castings; or made a personal contribution to any practical development for the ferrous cast metals industry; or made a major contribution to the development of their company.

Each applicant should submit a brief statement, outlining in no more than 500 words, the achievement for which he or she wishes to be considered for the award. A full technical paper WILL NOT have to be submitted.

The panel of judges will decide which applicants they call for interview. Interviews will be informal, taking no longer than one hour and will be held in July 2020.

All applicants’ information and any other information supplied as part of the application will be treated in the strictest confidence. Please note a copy of the applicant’s birth certificate must be supplied at or before the interview.

WFC 2020

Attendance at the World Foundry Congress is an ideal way of achieving the goals set by the Worshipful Company, giving the recipient the opportunity to gain an improved understanding of the industry and meet with like-minded people from around the world.

The next World Foundry Congress will be in Busan, South Korea on 18th to 22nd October 2020. The congress will consist of a two-day technical conference and exhibition followed by works and social tours in the surrounding area and includes a full social programme.
